Connecting to the vLab

Ways to Connect

Windows App is an application that you can install on your computer or device to securely connect to the vLab. It provides functionality that the Horizon HTML Access does not offer, including multi-monitor support and the ability to access local files from your computer/removable storage during your session.

Web Browser is the simplest way to connect and does not require any additional software installation.
How to Connect via the Windows App

If you need to install the Windows App on your computer or device, download the appropriate version for your OS below.
- Open the app and click the + button to add a new account.

When prompted to sign in, enter your email address using the pennkey@upenn.edu format and click Next.
- Enter your PennKey password and click Sign in.
- Complete the Duo Mobile authentication process with your device.

After signing in, you should see the connection for Library vLab under Cloud PCs.
- If you already completed registration after August 1 but don’t see the vLab connection in your list, reach out to Client Services for assistance by emailing libhelpdesk@pobox.upenn.edu.

(Optional) You can configure custom settings for your connection, including multi-monitor support and redirecting local files/removable storage during your session.

Hover your mouse over the Library vLab icon, click the Options button (···), and click Edit…
- Click the Use custom settings box.
- Click Save when you are finished making your changes.
- Click the Library vLab icon or Connect button to launch your session.
How to Connect via a Web Browser

Visit upennlib.info/vlab-webapp on any web browser.

When prompted to sign in, enter your email address using the pennkey@upenn.edu format and click Next.
- Enter your PennKey password and click Sign in.
- Complete the Duo Mobile authentication process with your device.
- Click the Library vLab icon or Connect button to launch your session.
Additional Information
- Any files or settings saved while connected to the vLab will be deleted once the session is closed. Be sure to save your work to your email, OneDrive, Box, Google Drive, Canvas, or some other cloud storage service.
- If you accidentally close the Windows App or web browser window, you can reconnect within 15 minutes and resume your session. After being disconnected for 15 minutes, your session will automatically be terminated.
- When you are finished, please remember to sign out of your session by double-clicking the shortcut on the Desktop.
